Ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase family member 2 (ENPP2 or NPP2), also known as autotaxin (ATX), is a is a secreted lysophospholipase D that hydrolyses lysophospholipids to produce lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a mitogen and chemoattractant for many cell types [PMID: 21240271]. It is a tumor motility-stimulating protein and an angiogenic factor [PMID: 11559573].
