Short name: P0

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

Myelin protein P0 (P0 or MPZ) constitutes the major protein component of myelin in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) of terrestrial vertebrates [PMID: 22457349, PMID: 12512938]. In zebra fish, it is expressed in oligodendrocytes of the central nervous system (CNS) [PMID: 21452240] and is upregulated in oligodendroglia following axonal injury [PMID: 25028515].

Mutations of the P0 gene cause several diseases, such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease [PMID: 7688964] and Dejerine-Sottas syndrome [PMID: 7506095].
