Description

Sodium-dependent phosphate transporter type 2B (also known as SLC34A2) may be the main phosphate transport protein in the intestinal brush border membrane [PMID: 10610722, PMID: 17179418]. It is also expressed in lung [PMID: 10329428]. Mutations in the SLC34A2 cause pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis, a rare disease characterised by the deposition of calcium phosphate microliths throughout the lungs [PMID: 16960801]. Loss function of SLC34A2 in adult mice cause pulmonary calcification and reduced intestinal phosphate absorption [PMID: 19729436].
