Family

cAMP-dependent transcription factor ATF-4 (IPR029811)

Short name: ATF4

Family relationships

None.

Description

ATF4 belongs to the ATF/cAMP-response element-binding protein family. It is a transcriptional activator that binds the cAMP response element (CRE) (consensus: 5'-GTGACGT[AC][AG]-3'), a sequence present in many viral and cellular promoters [PMID: 8506317, PMID: 12202230]. It plays a crucial role in the adaptation to stresses by regulating the transcription of many genes [PMID: 23804767].
