GDP-fucose transporter (IPR029666)

Short name: GDP-fucose_transp

Family relationships

Proteins in this family are involved in GDP-fucose import from the cytoplasm into the Golgi lumen. In the Golgi, GDP-fucose is used by specific fucosyltransferases to add fucose to a variety of glycoproteins and glycolipids. The GDP-fucose transporter is a nucleotide sugar transporter, classified as belonging to solute carrier family 35 (SLC35) [PMID: 12759756]. In Drosophila, this tranporter functions redundantly with Efr in the O-fucosylation of Notch, positively regulating Notch signalling [PMID: 19948734].
