Family relationships

Alpha-actinin-4 (ACTN4) is a F-actin cross-linking protein which establishes the cytoskeletal architecture that protects cells from mechanical stress and controls cell movement [PMID: 18332111, PMID: 23810014]. It is involved in recruiting JRAB/MICAL-L2 to cell-cell junctions and forming functional tight junctions [PMID: 18332111]. It acts as a nuclear receptor coactivator that regulates transcription networks to control cell growth [PMID: 21078666, PMID: 23810014]. Interestingly, host ACTN4 can interact with influenza A viral nucleoprotein and plays a crucial role in viral replication [PMID: 24802111].
