Short name: Spindlin-3

Family relationships

Description

The Spin/Ssty family of proteins occur in multiple copies in vertebrate genomes. Members of this family are thought to be important in the transition from sperm cells and oocytes to the early embryo, as well as in mitosis [PMID: 11806826].

This entry includes Spindlin 3 from mammals, and Spindlin Z and W from chickens.

The avian spindlin gene is one of the few genes which have a copy on the W as well as the Z chromosome [PMID: 16099384].
