It is involved in epithelial differentiation and contributes to epidermal integrity and barrier formation [PMID: 12853457]. It is associated with gastric cancer [PMID: 12087473]. Periphilin may act as transcriptional co-repressor involved in cell cycle progression [PMID: 17963697].
