Caprin (IPR028816)

Short name: Caprin

Family relationships

None.

Description

Caprins (cytoplasmic activation/proliferation-associated protein) may regulate the transport and translation of mRNAs of proteins involved in synaptic plasticity in neurons and cell proliferation and migration in multiple cell types [PMID: 17210633]. In humans, there are two caprins, caprin1 and caprin2. Caprin1 (also known as Rng105) may regulate the transport and translation of mRNAs of proteins involved in synaptic plasticity in neurons and cell proliferation and migration in multiple cell types [PMID: 20516077]. Caprin2 is expressed in the developing vertebrate lens [PMID: 19275872].

This entry also includes caprin homologue from Drosophila. It interacts with Lingerer (Lig), an UBA domain-containing protein, and plays a role in cell proliferation during development [PMID: 23874212].
