Matrilysin (MMP7 or PUMP1) is a matrix metalloproteinase that degrades casein, gelatins of types I, III, IV, and V, and fibronectin, and activates procollagenase [PMID: 1497627, PMID: 2550050]. It is highly expressed in early-stage human colorectal tumours [PMID: 9037065]. It may play a role in the development of lung/liver fibrosis and chronic renal dysfunction [PMID: 24273653].
