In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Nbp35 is a component of the cytosolic [Fe-S] protein assembly machinery (Cfd1, Nbp35, Nar1 and Cia1), which performs a scaffold function for Fe-S cluster synthesis [PMID: 22362766].

In Arabidopsis, AtNBP35 (At5g50960) retains similar Fe-S cluster binding and transfer properties in the absence of CFD1 [PMID: 18957412].
