Family

Endophilin-A (IPR028501)

Short name: Endophilin-A

Family relationships

None.

Description

Endophilin is a family of the BAR and SH3 (Src homology 3) domain-containing protein. In mammals the endophilins comprise endophilins A1, A2, A3 and B [PMID: 15363893]. This entry represents Endophilin-A from Drosophila and A1/A2/A3 from vertebrates.

In Drosophila, endophilin-A is required presynaptically at the neuromuscular junction and is implicated in synaptic vesicle endocytosis [PMID: 11955450, PMID: 11927550].

Endophilin-A1/2/3 are implicated in endocytosis. Endophilin-A3 forms filamentous structures that co-localise with microtubules but not with actin filaments [PMID: 15363893, PMID: 15066995].
