This entry represents CLIP-associating protein 1 (CLASP1) from metazoans. CLASP is a microtubule plus end binding protein (+TIPs) that localises to the dynamic plus ends of microtubules, promotes the stabilisation of dynamic microtubules [PMID: 11290329].

There are two CLASP, CLASP1 and CLASP2, in mammals. During cell division, they are implicated in the regulation of kinetochore microtubule dynamics [PMID: 12837247, PMID: 15592460, PMID: 16914514]. During interphase, CLASP is also involved in the nucleation of noncentrosomal microtubules originating from the trans-Golgi network (TGN) and required for the polarisation of the cytoplasmic microtubule arrays in migrating cells towards the leading edge of the cell [PMID: 17543864].
