Domain

Galactosyltransferase, C-terminal (IPR027791)

Short name: Galactosyl_T_C

Domain relationships

None.

Description

This is the C-terminal domain of a family of galactosyltransferases with three related galactosyltransferases activities, all three of which are possessed by one sequence in some cases: N-acetyllactosamine synthase (EC:2.4.1.90), beta-N-acetylglucosaminyl-glycopeptide beta-1,4- galactosyltransferase (EC:2.4.1.38), and lactose synthase (EC:2.4.1.22). Note that N-acetyllactosamine synthase is a component of Lactose synthase along with alpha-lactalbumin; in the absence of alpha-lactalbumin (EC:2.4.1.90) is the catalysed reaction [PMID: 9435216, PMID: 9792633]. Proteins containing this domain include beta-1,4-galactosyltransferases and N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferases.
