Girdin (IPR027717)

Short name: Girdin

Family relationships

Girdin is a ubiquitously expressed actin binding protein that plays a crucial role in the formation of stress fibres and lamellipodia [PMID: 16139227]. It is a substrate for the serine/threonine kinase Akt, which is an important regulator of cell survival and growth and has also been shown to be required for cell migration. Mutant studies have shown that prevention of Girdin phosphorylation results in abnormal elongated cell shape and limited migration [PMID: 16139227].
