Family relationships

Mast/stem cell growth factor receptor (Kit) is a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase that acts as cell-surface receptor for the cytokine KITLG/SCF and plays important roles in gametogenesis, hematopoiesis, mast cell development and function, and melanogenesis. Kit consists of an extracellular domain, a transmembrane segment, a juxtamembrane segment, and a protein kinase domain that contains an insert of about 80 amino acid residues. Binding of stem cell factor to Kit results in receptor dimerization and activation of protein kinase activity [PMID: 16129412, PMID: 7520444, PMID: 9528781, PMID: 10397721, PMID: 12444928, PMID: 12878163, PMID: 12511554, PMID: 17904548, PMID: 19265199, PMID: 21640708, PMID: 21135090].
