Platelet factor 4 (IPR027222)

Short name: PF4

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

Platelet factor 4, also known as CXC chemokine 4, is released during platelet aggregation [PMID: 11685038]. It neutralises the anticoagulant effect of heparin because it binds more strongly to heparin than to the chondroitin-4-sulfate chains of the carrier molecule [PMID: 9531587]. It is chemotactic (CXCR3 as its receptor) for neutrophils and monocytes [PMID: 6945600]. It inhibits endothelial cell proliferation [PMID: 7644496].
