Lumican belongs to the small leucine-rich (SLRP) family of keratan sulfate proteoglycans [PMID: 16213485]. It has a role in collagen fibril assembly in nonhepatic tissues, particularly the cornea, where fibril assembly is crucial to corneal transparency [PMID: 9606218]. Other functions of lumican include regulation of angiogenesis, cell proliferation and cell migration [PMID: 23007134].
