Neuropilins are essential multifunctional vertebrate cell surface receptors [PMID: 23116416]. They function as receptors for axon guidance factor semaphorin class 3 (Sema3), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and placenta growth factor-2 (PLGF-2).

Neuropilin-2 is a transmembrane protein that serves as a high affinity receptor for semaphorins 3C (Sema E), 3F (Sema IV), VEGF isoforms VEGF-165 and VEGF-145, and the PLGF-2 isoform of PLGF [PMID: 9331348, PMID: 10748121, PMID: 12613545].
