Lactadherin, also known by a variety of names like milk fat globule-EGF factor 8 (MFG-E8), SED1, and PAS-6/PAS-7, is involved in a wide variety of cellular interactions [PMID: 19204935]. It contributes to phagocytic removal of apoptotic cells in many tissues [PMID: 12000961]. It plays an important role in the maintenance of intestinal epithelial homeostasis and the promotion of mucosal healing [PMID: 18008006], promotes VEGF-dependent neovascularisation [PMID: 15834428], and it is involved in cell adhesion [PMID: 10821695, PMID: 9260929].
