Family relationships

This is a family of methyltransferase-related proteins that includes among others methyltransferase-like proteins 2, 6 and 8, uncharacterised methyltransferase ABP140, O-methyltransferase 3 and methyltransferase-like protein Metl.

Methyltransferase-like proteins 2, 6 and 8 are part of a group of proteins known as TIPs (from tension-induced/inhibited protein) required for the recruitment of histone acetyltransferase p300 to specific promoters. TIP-6 is involved in the adipogenic cascade [PMID: 15992539, PMID: 1871095]. Uncharacterised methyltransferase ABP140 is a potential methyltransferase that binds F-actin and shows weak F-actin cross-linking activity [PMID: 9467951]. O-methyltransferase 3 is up-regulated by phagocytic stimuli [PMID: 18559084]. Metl may interact with presenilin during development [PMID: 1738826].
