COPII coat assembly protein, Sec16 (IPR024880)

Short name: Sec16

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

Transport vesicles budding from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are coated with the COPII proteins [PMID: 8004676]. Sec16 is involved in the initiation of assembly of the COPII coat and the selection of cargo molecules [PMID: 7593161, PMID: 2188733, PMID: 7593162, PMID: 9023343, PMID: 12235121]. It is also involved in autophagy [PMID: 11694599]. Two mammalian Sec16 homologues have been described and they seem to have nonredundant functions in ER export and transitional ER organisation [PMID: 17192411].
