Thrombospondin/cartilage oligomeric matrix protein, coiled-coil domain (IPR024665)

Short name: Thbs/COMP_coiled-coil

Domain relationships

Thrombospondins are adhesive glycoproteins that mediate cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions. Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein may play a role in the structural integrity of cartilage via its interaction with other extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen and fibronectin [PMID: 11084047, PMID: 12225811].

Thrombospondin 3 and 4 and cartilage oligomeric matrix proteins contain a five-stranded coiled-coil domain represented by this entry. This domain has a binding site between two internal rings formed by Leu37 and Thr40 [PMID: 9736606].
