Family relationships

Glucitol is found in various fruits in nature and is used as a sweetener in food. Bacillus subtilis can utilise it as a sole carbon source via the gut operon (glucitol-utilizing transporter), consisting of gutP encoding a probable transporter (originally reported as gutA) and gutB (glucitol dehydrogenase). A transcriptional activator for the gut operon, gutR, is located immediately upstream of gutB [PMID: 11118449, PMID: 12897001].

This family contains GutR proteins from Bacillus species.
