This entry represents interferon-induced protein with tetratricopeptide repeats 1 (IFIT1), also known as interferon-induced protein 56, from primates. IFIT1 expression is strongly induced by interferon (IFN), double-stranded RNA and viruses, and mediates the anti-HPV (human papillomavirus) effect of IFN [PMID: 19008854]. Despite his role as suppressor of viral replication, it has also been found to down-regulate virus-triggered induction of type I IFNs and cellular antiviral responses [PMID: 19416887], suggesting multiple roles in regulating antiviral responses.
