Family relationships

Nitrous-oxide reductase is part of a bacterial respiratory system which is activated under anaerobic conditions in the presence of nitrate or nitrous oxide. NosZ, one of the members of this family, is the nitrous-oxide reductase structural protein, with an N-terminal twin-arginine translocation (TAT) signal sequence. The TAT system replaces the Sec system for export of proteins with bound cofactor [PMID: 11160097].
