Histone H3-K79 methyltransferase, metazoa (IPR021169)

Short name: DOT1L/grappa

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

This entry represents a group of histone H3-K79 methyltransferases from insects and vertebrates. They are yeast Dot1 homologues that possess intrinsic H3-K79-specific histone methyltransferase (HMTase) activity [PMID: 12123582]. In Drosophila, it is also known as protein grappa (gpp), which is required for Polycomb Group (PcG) and trithorax Group (trxG) maintenance of expression. It is also involved in telomeric silencing, but do not affect centric heterochromatin [PMID: 15371351].
