Accessory cholera enterotoxin, Ace (IPR020495)

Short name: Accessory_cholera_enterotoxin

Family relationships

None.

Description

This entry represents an enterotoxin found in Vibrio cholerae and other Vibrio species. V. cholerae causes the disease cholera via the intestinal secretogen, cholera toxin. A second toxin, Zot, decreases intestinal tissue resistance by modifying intercellular tight junctions. A third, Ace, increases short-circuit current in Ussing chambers and causes fluid secretion in ligated rabbit ileal loops by increasing the potential difference [PMID: 8389476].
