Androgenic gland hormone, arthropoda (IPR020382)

Short name: Androgenic_gland_hormone_art

Family relationships

This entry represents the androgenic gland hormone (AGH) which controls sex differentiation and the formation of male appendages, spermatogenesis, pigmentation, and male specific behaviour, and is confined to Isopoda.

Male sexual characteristics in Crustacea are induced by this protein, which is produced by the male-specific androgenic gland. In analysis of the tissue-specific gene expression AGH were detected from the testis carrying the androgenic glands, but not in the testis only, seminal vesicle, vas deferens, or hepatopancreas [PMID: 12560604].
