Domain relationships

Allatostatins are neuropeptide hormones in insects and crustacea. They have two major functions; firstly, they inhibit the generation of juvenile hormone. Juvenile hormone is an important regulator of development and reproduction in insects and is produced by the corpora allata [PMID: 16968202]. Secondly, they reduce food intake and are therefore putative targets for insecticide research [PMID: 14561063]. This entry identifies insect allatostatin as mostly as part of the unprocessed propeptide; in some cases the method does match the propeptide as well.
