Domain

LysM domain (IPR018392)

Short name: LysM_dom

Domain relationships

None.

Description

The LysM (lysin motif) domain is about 40 residues long and is found in a variety of enzymes involved in bacterial cell wall degradation [PMID: 1352512]. It contains a beta-alpha-alpha-beta conformation, with the beta strands forming an antiparallel beta sheet and the two alpha helices packing on one side of this sheet [PMID: 10843862]. It may have a general peptidoglycan binding function. This domain can also be found in some eukaryotic proteins, such as the nuclear receptor coactivators and oxidation resistance protein 1.
