Family

Urea transporter, bacteria (IPR017807)

Short name: Urea_transporter_bac

Family relationships

Description

Proteins in this family are bacterial urea transporters, found in species that contain urease, encoded adjacent to the urease operon. YUT (Yersinia urea transporter) proteins from the Gram-negative bacterium Yersinia peseudotuberculosis are also included in this family. Putative Yut urea channel exists only in the open state, allowing urea to enter into the cytoplasm down its concentration gradient [PMID: 17264989].
