Description

Nitrosocyanin, as described from the obligate chemolithoautotroph Nitrosomonas europaea, is a red copper protein of unknown function with sequence similarity to a number of blue copper redox proteins [PMID: 11827513].

The structure of nitrosocyanin is a trimer of single domain cupredoxins [PMID: 11341832]. Nitroscocyanin may mediate electron transfer. It could have a novel role as a nitric oxide dehydrogenase or a nitric oxide reductase in the oxidation of ammonia [PMID: 15755175].
