Description

This entry includes Rad, Rem, Rem2, and Gem/Kir. They belong to the Ras superfamily of monomeric G-proteins. They are the most potent known intracellular inhibitors of high-voltage-activated Ca2+(Ca(V)1 and Ca(V)2) channels [PMID: 23063948]. Similar to other Ras superfamily proteins, RGKs contain a guanine nucleotide binding domain (G-domain). However, they have non-conservative substitutions in the G-domain of residues critical for GTP binding and hydrolysis [PMID: 23063948].
