This entry represents rRNA (guanine-N(2)-)-methyltransferase D (RsmD; EC: This enzyme specifically methylates the guanosine in position 966 of 16S rRNA in the 30S particle in Escherichia coli [PMID: 8117682]. Guanine 966 is located in the loop of E. coli 16 S rRNA helix 31, forming a part of the P-site tRNA-binding pocket. The structure of RsmD closely resembles that of RsmC rRNA methyltransferase, the latter being specific for m(2)G1207 of the 16 S rRNA [PMID: 17189261].
