Bone morphogenetic protein 3/3B (IPR017197)

Short name: BMP3/BMP3B

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

This group includes two members of the TGF-beta superfamily: bone morphogenetic protein 3 (BMP3) and bone morphogenetic protein 3B (BMP3B), also known as growth differentiation factor 10 (GDF10). Together they represent a subgroup of the BMP family. They are involved in development and organogenesis. In developing embryos, they have different dorsalising activities [PMID: 14977563]. BMP3 is a negative regulator of bone density [PMID: 11138004]. BMP3B plays an inhibitory role in the process of osteoblast differentiation [PMID: 22155034].
