Cyclic 2, 3-diphospoglycerate synthetase (IPR016557)

Short name: Cyc_diphosphoglycerate_synth

Family relationships

Cyclic 2,3-diphospoglycerate (cDPG) is a low molecular weight compound that accumulates to high levels in some hyperthermophilic methanogens, suggesting that it may play a thermoadaptive role. In support of this, cDPG has been shown to protect proteins from heat denaturation in vitro. This entry represents cDPG synthetase, which catalyzes the synthesis of cDPG by the formation of an intramolecular phosphoanhydride bond in 2,3-diphosphoglycerate [PMID: 9811660].
