Sorting nexin 9 family (IPR014536)

Short name: Snx9_fam

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

Proteins in the sorting nexin 9 subfamily includes SNX9, SNX18 and SNX33 [PMID: 22718350]. They are characterised by the presence of an N-terminal SH3 domain (IPR001452), a PX domain that is a phosphoinositide-binding module (IPR001683), and a Bin/Amphiphysin/Rvs (BAR) domain at the C terminus, which allows membrane binding and bending. They are required for progression and completion of mitosis [PMID: 2271835].

This entry also includes the sorting nexin lst-4 from Caenorhabditis elegans. It is involved in the signalling of vulval development by acting as a negative regulator of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling [PMID: 14752159].
