Description

This entry contains bacterial and archaeal malate dehydrogenases, which convert malate into oxaloacetate in the citric acid cycle. The critical residues which discriminate malate dehydrogenase from lactate dehydrogenase have been characterised [PMID: 11021970], and have been used to determine members of this group.

This entry also includes eukaryotic L-lactate dehydrogenase, which is involved in the pyruvate fermentation to lactate pathway [PMID: 8577343].
