Fruit-specific protein (IPR009632)

Short name: 2A11

Overlapping homologous superfamilies

Family relationships

This family, is restricted to plants and specifically to the Solanaceae. The members have low similarity to metallocarboxypeptidase inhibitor (MCPI) proteins from potato and tomato (IPR004231) and there is no direct evidence to suggest that these are proteinase inhibitors, despite publications to the contrary [PMID: 11488477]. In Hyoscyamus niger (Henbane) the HR7 protein is found in the primordia and bases of lateral roots. Over expression of HR7 dramatically enhances the frequency of lateral root formation, suggesting it plays a role in lateral root initiation [PMID: 10356981].
