Mu-agatoxin (IPR009243)

Short name: Mu-agatoxin

Family relationships

This family consists of several short spider neurotoxin proteins, including many from the Funnel-web spider, known as mu-agatoxins [PMID: 15066410]. Spider mu-agatoxins are cysteine-rich polypeptides which cause gradual but irreversible paralysis. These toxins cause repetitive firing and massive transmitter release (which is mediated by glutamate receptors) from presynaptic stores at neuromuscular junctions [PMID: 15066410].
