Family relationships

Mutants of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae ACN9 gene have two- to fourfold elevated levels of enzymes involved in the glyoxylate cycle, gluconeogenesis, and acetyl-CoA metabolism [PMID: 10328823]. The ACN9 protein was localised to the mitochondrial intermembrane space [PMID: 10103055]. ACN9 is required for the conversion of ethanol or acetate into carbohydrate, and has recently been implicated in a genetice predisposition to alcohol dependence [PMID: 18163977].
