ICP47 (US12) is a key factor in the evasion of cellular immune response against Human herpesvirus 1 (HHV-1) (Human herpes simplex virus 1)-infected cells. Specific inhibition of the transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) by ICP47 prevents peptide transport into the endoplasmic reticulum and subsequent loading of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules [PMID: 10521276]. ICP47 is comprised of three helices and is associated with cellular membranes [PMID: 10521276].
