Family

Nicotinate/nicotinamide nucleotide adenylyltransferase (IPR005248)

Short name: NadD/NMNAT

Family relationships

None.

Description

This family contains the predominant bacterial/eukaryotic adenylyltransferases for nicotinamide-nucleotide and for the deamido form, nicotinate nucleotide. Nicotinamide-nucleotide adenylyltransferase (NMNAT, EC:2.7.7.1) [PMID: 17402747] synthesizes NAD by the salvage pathway, while nicotinate-nucleotide adenylyltransferase (NaMN-ATase, EC:2.7.7.18) [PMID: 10894752] synthesizes the immediate precursor of NAD by the de novo pathway.
