Family relationships

This entry represents chromate transporters (CHR) [PMID: 2152903, PMID: 2180932]. These proteins reduce chromate accumulation and are essential for chromate resistance. They are composed of one or two copies of this region. The short-chain CHR proteins (such as YwrB and YwrA) form heterodimer transporters which efflux chromate ions from the cytoplasm, while the long chain CHR proteins appear to have arisen from a gene fusion event of two short chain transporters[PMID: 19581367].
