Smooth muscle protein/calponin (IPR003096)

Short name: SM22_calponin

Family relationships

Description

Calponin is a smooth muscle-specific, actin-, tropomyosin- and calmodulin-binding protein believed to be involved in regulation or modulation of contraction [PMID: 8370452]; interaction of the protein with actin inhibits actomyosin MgATPase activity. Multiple isoforms are found in smooth muscle [PMID: 8144658]. Calponin is a basic protein of ~34 Kd [PMID: 8550594]. The protein contains three repeats of a well-conserved 26-residue domain (see IPR000557).
