Family relationships



Members of this family are thought to be integral membrane proteins. Some members of this family have been shown to cause apoptosis if mutated [PMID: 8413235], these proteins are known as DAD for defender against death. The family also includes the epsilon subunit of the oligosaccharyltransferase that is involved in N-linked glycosylation (also known as Ost2) [PMID: 7593165].

DAD1/Ost2 is a component of the N-oligosaccharyl transferase enzyme which catalyses the transfer of a high mannose oligosaccharide from a lipid-linked oligosaccharide donor to an asparagine residue within an Asn-X-Ser/Thr consensus motif in nascent polypeptide chains [PMID: 9167970].
