Domain

Initiator Rep protein (IPR000525)

Short name: Initiator_Rep_prot

Domain relationships

None.

Description

This entry represents the initiator of plasmid replication proteins, RepA and RepB. RepB possesses nicking-closing (topoisomerase I) like activity. It is also able to perform a strand transfer reaction on ssDNA that contains its target [PMID: 9180376, PMID: 9618448]. RepA is an Escherichia coli protein involved in plasmid replication. The RepA protein binds to DNA repeats that flank the repA gene [PMID: 8320218, PMID: 3949778]. A similar RepA family of proteins with wider distribution are the bacterial plasmid DNA replication initiator proteins (see IPR004322).
