Abstract

This entry represents rRNA (guanine-N(2)-)-methyltransferase D (RsmD; EC:2.1.1.52). This enzyme specifically methylates the guanosine in position 966 of 16S rRNA in the 30S particle in Escherichia coli [1]. Guanine 966 is located in the loop of E. coli 16 S rRNA helix 31, forming a part of the P-site tRNA-binding pocket. The structure of RsmD closely resembles that of RsmC rRNA methyltransferase, the latter being specific for m(2)G1207 of the 16 S rRNA [2].
