AbstractHelp

Imaginal disc growth factors are soluble factors involved in the regulation of proliferation in imaginal discs. They were discovered in Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly), and orthologs appear in Bombyx mori (Silk moth) among others; similar glycoproteins of unknown function have also been found in mammals. IDGFs are structurally related to chitinases, although they have no catalytic activity and appear to act as lectins [1].
